Which scooter for two people with luggage

Seat length, suspension and where the weight sits matter more than engine size. Our reasoning, and where we would not go smaller.

Two adults and a pair of bags is the situation where the cheapest category stops being the cheapest decision. Here is how we would choose, and why.

This one is a judgement, not a spec sheet
Manufacturers do not publish a “two up with luggage” rating. What follows is our reasoning from seat length, weight and storage volume. Treat it as an argued opinion and weigh it against your own experience.

What actually limits you

Seat length, not power

Two adults need somewhere to sit without one of them perched on the tail. This rules out the smallest bodies long before the engine becomes the issue.

Suspension, on the way back

Loaded, the rear shock is what you feel over every broken edge. It is the difference between a pleasant hour and a sore one.

Underseat volume

A helmet takes most of the storage on a small scooter. If both helmets have to live under the seat, there is no room left for anything else.

Brakes, downhill

Extra weight matters most going down, not up. On the hills this is the argument for a bigger bike, not the climb itself.

Where we would draw the line

    Two people, no luggage, short town trips

    The Comfort category is enough. In Canggu or Sanur, distances are short and speeds are low.

    Two people with day bags

    Comfort still works, but take the largest body in the category rather than the lightest.

    Two people with real luggage, or any distance

    Premium. The longer seat and the suspension earn their keep within the first half hour, and the underseat space stops being a compromise.

    Two people, luggage and hills

    Premium without hesitation. Kintamani, Munduk and Nusa Penida are where an underpowered scooter stops being merely slow.

One thing to check at delivery

Ask for the rear preload to be set for two. It takes the mechanic a moment with a tool most of them carry, and it changes the ride more than a category upgrade would.
